Boats were Sam Smith’s first love. He grew up by the British seaside, the son of a steam captain, and throughout his career, he made boats of all shapes and sizes. These are full of personality, often with a story of their own, and characters to fit. String, tin and ribbons were often added to augment the exquisite painting, and if they were lucky a beautiful fish painted on their hull.
